More than 87% of colleagues at Nottingham CityCare Partnership, the biggest provider of NHS community health services in Nottingham, say their work is making a difference to the people and communities they serve, according to results from the national NHS Staff Survey release today.

This is significantly higher than the average (82%) for comparable health providers surveyed.

606 colleagues (54%) completed the survey and more than three quarters (77%) of the workforce would be happy for friends and family to be cared for by CityCare. While confidence in the care we provide remains at the same level as last year, we are now 11% higher than the average for comparable organisations.

Each year, everyone who works in the NHS in England is invited to take part in the NHS Staff Survey. It gives a snapshot of how they feel about their working lives. Results released today are based on questions asked between September and November 2024.

The questions capture a national picture alongside local detail, helping colleagues working across the NHS to understand where organisations are doing well and where work is needed to improve things for the workforce.

Nottingham CityCare Interim Chief Executive Paul Wood said: "The staff survey is an important annual measure providing wide-ranging insights and giving us a clear picture of what we’re doing well and where we can improve,

“I am proud colleagues feel their work is making a difference to the patients and communities they serve. I want to continue to foster a culture of openness and opportunities to provide ongoing feedback to improve life at Nottingham CityCare.

“I’d like to thank colleagues for taking the time to share their views and want to assure them we are continuing to listen and make improvements.”

Giving colleagues the confidence and opportunities to speak up about concerns plays a key role in patient safety and maintaining high quality care.

More than nine out of ten CityCare staff (92%) feel encouraged to report errors, near misses and incidents and 82% said they would feel secure when raising concerns about unsafe clinical practice – both results are significantly higher than the average for similar organisations.

Elsewhere, the survey revealed:

  • 92% say they are encouraged to report safety incidents and near misses so that lessons can be learned.
  • 80% of colleagues believe CityCare respects individual differences and 82% feel colleagues treat each other with respect – 6% more than the average for comparable organisations
  • More than seven out of 10 colleagues feel CityCare offers them challenging work
  • With regards to disability, 78% of colleagues feel that CityCare made reasonable adjustments for colleagues – up from 72% last year and now in line with the average for comparable organisations.
