Kayleigh Pollard, a mother of two, including newborn, Dempsey, says CityCare’s Well Baby Clinic at St Ann’s Valley Centre provides a vital service.
The clinic is one of many that CityCare offer across the city which give exceptional care and support to babies and new parents.
Through regular check-ups and assessments, the dedicated team ensures newborns and young children are developing healthily.
“It puts my mind at rest. Everyone is friendly, welcoming and professional,” said Kayleigh.
“I have another child, but becoming a parent again still feels new and the service helps me to understand what is happening through my baby’s growth in this early stage of development.”
Community Nursery Nurse Heidi Griffiths said: “I will check the weight, height, and head circumference of each baby, ensuring they are meeting developmental milestones. It’s also important to ask parents questions, and to listen to their concerns, addressing them with care and compassion.”
Parents have expressed how reassuring the service is and how it helps them track their children's progress. One mother, who had an appointment with Heidi, was concerned about her one-year-old's walking. Heidi immediately reassured her by encouraging the child through play to walk in front of her to confirm everything was fine.
The Well Baby Clinic, which covers children up to the age of 5, is part of a larger provision that includes home health visits and breastfeeding support where needed.
The service also delivers care to more marginalised sections of the community through the Transient Family Service, ensuring that those seeking asylum have access to essential care.
Judith Douglas, Director of Nursing, Allied Health Professionals and Quality, said: “When a baby is born it is a precious time for the parents, and it can be stressful as the baby adapts to life outside of the womb.
It is essential that they are provided with expert support that is kind, compassionate, and timely and I am proud of the services that we deliver, and the families that we care for and support.”
